In the United States, the month of February is dedicated to honor and bring awareness to Black history. In celebration of this, C&EN shared an article highlighting 17 Black chemists whose work has "shaped the discipline and whose discoveries have changed our lives for the better." You can read the full article here.
In addition to being Black History month, February is also the month that the NAACP was founded. This civil rights organization was formed to "disrupt inequality dismantle racism, and accelerate change in key areas including criminal justice, health care, education, climate and the economy." You can read more about the NAACP on their website.
The ideals of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at Boston College align well with those of the NAACP. Our committee strives to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and dismantle systemic racism in the greater scientific community.
